Hair Styling

Hair is an important part of face which has significant effect on one’s physical and psychological personality.

Hair loss is commonly caused by genetic and hormonal influence, but external factors like smoking, pollution, nutrition, hair styling tools & products, stress also plays a significant role.

Hair loss or hair damage due to styling is generally reversible, however one should be careful while using coloring & styling products

Combing or styling the wet hair should be avoided unless they are very curly as wet hair tends to break easily.

Continuous tightly pulling hair styles like tight ponytails, cornrows or wearing tight braids should be avoided as these cause continuous tension and traction on hair leading to traction alopecia, which may be permanent.

Coloring chemicals and using high heat setting for hair styling may lead to damage to the outer layer of hair shaft, making it brittle which easily break off. Straight rods and heating tools not only damage the outer cuticle layer but also decrease the moisture in the hair shaft.

This usually leads to reversible thinning of the hair as follicles are not generally affected by these.
