Can tight hair styling like braids, ponytails cause hair loss?

Tight hair styling can cause hair loss particularly in fronto-temporal area. This is due to persistent pulling of the hair follicles in certain styles. In early stage it is reversible but in late stage it is irreversible. Generally, this type of hair loss is seen in tightly braid hairs or due to tight ponytails. This is manifested as increased space between the follicles. This type of hair loss is termed as traction alopecia. This type of hair loss can also affect the beard in persons who tightly fix the beard or who twist the beard under the chin.
