Blood thinners are medicines taken to prevent clotting of blood. These medicines are generally prescribed in cardiac patients or the patients who has stroke or who are prone to these situations. Commonly used blood thinners are ecospirin, clopidogrel, and sometimes warfarin. Before any procedure these medicines may need to be stopped or modified but this should always be done after discussing and taking consent from the doctor who has started these medicines. Generally, these medicines are stop 7 to 10 days prior to the surgery after discussing it with cardiologist or the treating doctor. The use of blood thinners is related to the increase chances of bleeding during the procedure.
