Hair transplant surgery when performed properly is relatively a safe procedure associated with only few side effects which can be managed easily. Some of the common side effects include Pain, swelling, bleeding, scabs/crusting, itching. These are short term side effects that subside usually within few days. Pain is generally not a problem as analgesics are usually prescribed in initial post-operative period. Swelling generally starts at 2-3 days and goes away within 5-7 days of the surgery. Itching may occur in recipient as well as donor area and is present more in initial period

There may be some specific side effects affecting the donor area like scarring, keloid formation, and donor area effluvium. Recipient area may develop side effect like folliculitis.
