You are in your forties or fifties—successful and with a family. You get invited by your school for an alumni get together. A thrill takes over, you start reminiscing about the good old days of school—when you were young and carefree. You would run with the winds and dance to all the tunes. Those were the days, you tell yourself. A certain nostalgia takes over. But that soon makes you nervous. You will meet a lot of friends after years. And that makes you conscious about your own looks, about what will people think. Age has started to show on you. You have wrinkles, eye bags, and have lost some of your hair. And there they are so many of your friends who despite their age don’t look a day over thirty. Just this very thought depresses you. You lament the decisions you made growing up, smoking, alcohol, lack of exercise, and a sedentary lifestyle, all have contributed to how you look today. Added to that is the stress, another major contributor to hair fall. How you wish you could travel back in time and undo so much.

There are also men, who might have led a healthy lifestyle, but baldness runs in the family. Research says that almost 85% of men experience major hair fall by the time they are 50. The reason being male pattern baldness or Androgenetic Alopecia.

If you find yourself in a similar situation like the above, then worry not. You might be in your forties but can easily look like someone in their early thirties. And that can surprise a lot of people. Even people as young as in their late twenties and early thirties are losing their hair faster than ever before. Skin diseases, cardio-vascular issues, obesity, weakening of bones etc. are real problems that young people are confronting. And as they age these problems grow by massive proportions.

Hair Transplant Tips

But for someone like you, who is worried about your looks and hairfall. Modern science has solutions in the form of new age hair transplant procedures. Hair restoration or transplant is a procedure that involves extracting follicles from the donor areas of the head and transplanting them to the bald or thinning areas. The donor areas are usually the back and sides of the head, which are resilient to hair fall.

At present there are two widely used methods of hair restoration used by surgeons—Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). FUT involves removing a strip of scalp from the donor area, dividing it into individual grafts, each of which contain a few hairs, and then transplanting them into the bald spots.

Whereas FUE involves extracting individual follicles from the donor areas and transplanting them through small slits on to the bald spots. FUT and FUE are minimally invasive and almost painless. They have a high rate of success and there are many clinics that offer these services. There are good surgeons and clinics for hair restoration in India that offer both FUE and FUT procedures. These clinics meet international standards and are experienced in treating both local, and foreign medical tourists.

Apart from the above, you should know that FUE is done across a few sessions and is contingent upon the state of hair loss. The recovery time is about a week to ten days and patients are allowed to go home the very same day. After a few weeks of the restoration procedure, the transplanted hair begins to shed. A lot of people who undergo the procedure get worried when the new hair shedding – but if you are well informed and have spoken to the surgeon at length, you will know that within three to six months hair from the transplanted follicles start growing and from there on follows the regular growth cycle.

One of the key things for a successful hair restoration procedure is post transplant care. Intake of foods rich in protein, zinc and iron ensure the health of not just your body but also of the scalp. Moreover, regular exercise allows you to de-stress and helps blood flow. This is extremely important for the health of the transplanted hair.

So the next time you worry about ageing, hair loss and your looks, remember, help is always at hand. All you have to do is consult an expert. And more importantly, don’t stress about it. So go ahead, meet those old friends at the alumni meet. Relive the days that have made so many happy memories for you. After all, age is just a number and you can be as old or young as you want to be.
