Do hair transplants leave scar?

This is very basic question that strike the mind of everyone who planning for hair transplant surgery. Hair transplant is a surgical procedure and hence it is the general notion that it will leave visible scar that may not look good if I keep short hair.
However, the visibility of scarring depends upon the experience of the surgeon and the method of hair transplant.
With FUE technique, one may notice very small sized dots scars in the donor area that gets healed within few days after surgery and hence no scar will be visible.
In FUE, the graft follicles are extracted one by one. Here the experience of the surgeon comes into play as one has to be very careful while harvesting the grafts so that too many grafts are not taken out from a single area. This may result in a hair free patch in the donor area. Over harvesting in a single area may also lead to cicatrisation in that area. This gives a very poor appearance in that area. So, an experienced surgeon knows how to harvest and provide a fine dot like scars which may not be noticeable over a period of time.
With FUT, which involves extraction of strip from donor area one may notice a linear scar from where the strip got extracted. Here it is the skill of the surgeon, which decides. At our center the closure of wound is done meticulously and using trichophytic closure techniques so that hairs grow between the scar and the resultant minimal scar is barely visible.
